One of the latest phones that’s about to come out in the near future in the UK is the HTC Cha Cha. This article isn’t going to go into the details about the phone – that can be saved for when we review it in the future – but the Carphone Warehouse have just announced what it’s going to cost which is, of course, major news for people interested in mobile phones.
The ChaCha is going to be on sale from the 1st of July by the company, and is going to cost £20 a month. It’ll be free if you get that contract, making it an attractive option for people looking for a contract in this price range. If you want to spend less than you can get a £10 a month deal but you’ll pay a reasonable amount of money for the handset itself.
If you haven’t ever seen a picture of the ChaCha before then it’s a phone with a full QWERTY keyboard – not a touch screen version – and has a lot of great Facebook features. It’s definitely aimed at people who are interested in social networking and email with the keyboard. It looks like an interesting phone to try, I can’t wait for it to come out so I can give it a go. It also comes with the Sense overlay and a 2.6 inch screen.
If you’re looking for a smart phone that does everything, has a huge amount of power and is capable of things that other phones could only dream about then the Samsung Solid Immense is definitely NOT for you. This phone is squarely aimed at people who don’t want all the fancy features that you pay for when you buy an expensive phone but instead just want a model that does all the basics well with the minimum of fuss. For people like me this is a bit of a letdown of a phone – there are so many similar older models – but I still think it has a place on the market.
For example, the phone is built to be very solid and durable – hence the name. That means it’s great for people who know their phone is going to take a bit of a battering over the years. That also means that it’s not the most attractive phone, but it’s not really aimed at people who want their phone to look good. Other great features of the phone include that it’s got a built in radio, easy to use FB and Twitter and relatively cheap.
A major problem is that the battery life is poor – something you wouldn’t expect from a low specification phone. It also doesn’t have HSDPA and doesn’t come with WiFi, and not surprisingly the phone’s camera isn’t very good.
It seems to have been very slow coming, but it has been reported that Google will be releasing Gtalk video chat on Android phones. You can already use the text messaging feature of Gtalk on the phone, but when Google eventually release the new feature you’ll be able to make WiFi video calls. This is almost certainly a response to Apples FaceTime feature.
There is no set date for when the video chat feature on Android will be released but apparently it’s going to be included in the next update. Google haven’t officially responded to any of these comments though, although it seems certain that there will be some sort of update coming in the near future including the video calling feature.
The main question is how many people will actually use this type of video calling feature considering you need to be connected to a WiFi network. I don’t think it’s the kind of thing I’d be using a lot, but it’s nice to know that I’ll have the option.
If I were Google I’d be more worried about getting all the bugs on Android fixed. The most annoying one at the moment is when you select a certain text message conversation and then another one pops up. It’s not the end of the world when this happens – unless you don’t realize your mistake and sent a text message to the wrong person which could be potentially very embarrassing! There are a few other little quirks, although I suppose it’s important that Android is seen to be keeping up with everything the iPhone can do.
